Frequently Asked Questions

Does epoxy handle sun/UV rays?

Epoxy handles the outdoors in the sun when using common sense. Stonecoat epoxy has UV protection and doesn’t yellow however we recommend it to protect it with an umbrella or a gazebo when exposed for a long period of time.

How long does it take to cure?

Epoxy is fully cured in 30 days but can be used lightly after 48 hours. So don’t put any heavy objects on it for long periods of time to avoid dents, until fully cured. If dents occur, use a blow dryer to warm it up and it will self-level again.

Is epoxy food safe?

We use Stonecoat Countertops epoxy which is food safe and very durable. However, not all epoxy is food safe. Make sure to read carefully before using all epoxy on countertops. Ask FDA.

What kind of pigment can be used in epoxy?

Epoxy accepts many different pigments such as mica powders, inks, dyes, and some spray paint to mention some. Resin does not like water-based paint or oil-based pigments!

Can you put new epoxy over old epoxy?

Prep is everything, but yes you can put new epoxy over existing epoxy but you need to sand the epoxy to give it a mechanical bond (which is done for epoxy kitchen countertops) then you can pour the new epoxy.

Can you use epoxy on pictures?

Yes, you can use epoxy on pictures and photographs. It actually makes them look more professional and helps the color show and display better. Epoxy actually helps seal and protect your photos, make sure to seal your photo first with a mod podge.
